Abstract
Water security is a strategic issue related to the sustainable development of the Chinese nation. Urban stormwater, mine water, etc., are both disasters and rare unconventional water resources. Their deep geological storage has dual benefits of solving strategic water resource reserves and disaster reduction and prevention. However, the ambiguous coupling mechanisms of stress-seepage-hydrochemical-microbial fields during deep storage give rise to uncontrollable permeability enhancement and expansion, unclear evolutionary patterns of groundwater environments in target layers post-storage, and the absence of standardized assessment methodologies for geo-environmental effects. These interconnected challenges collectively impede the widespread application of deep geological water storage technologies. This paper proposes a scientific framework for research on this issue. Taking mine water and urban stormwater deep storage in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as the research objects, through quantitative evaluation of the hydrogeological structure and occurrence geo-environment of target layers such as deep storage sandstone and limestone, an intelligent optimization method for deep storage target layers is established. We will first conduct water-rock-microbe coupling simulations and field-based deep storage tests. Building on these foundational studies, a coupled numerical model integrating stress, seepage, hydrochemical, and microbial fields will be developed. This model will leverage advanced AI high-resolution modeling and digital twin technologies. Its core objectives are threefold: to unravel the mechanisms governing water-rock interactions during deep water resource storage, to clarify how microbial communities regulate the opening and closing of seepage channels, and to delineate the evolutionary patterns of the host geological environment. Ultimately, this framework will underpin the development of a robust assessment methodology for evaluating geo-environmental effects associated with deep storage operations.. The expected outcomes are poised to deliver a rigorous scientific underpinning, enabling breakthroughs in addressing key challenges of deep water resource storage.
